SailNet is on a distinguished road
New Gear and Maintenance Section

Information and advice on everything from mastlights to zincs can be found in SailNets's Gear and Maintenance Section.
As part of our ongoing effort to ensure that the SailNet site remains as user-friendly and functional as possible, we've re-organized our collection of articles and information about equipment, outfitting, and maintenance. SailNet has hundreds of articles and answers to technical questions from sailboat specialists on subjects ranging from hull blisters to nautical decorations, and now we have collected these bits and pieces of information into an easy-to-find format that allows every sailor to find the solutions to challenges aboard his or her boat.

Looking for a design on a new sheet-lead system? Want to know the difference between GPS and DGPS? Need to size a battery bank or choose a solar panel? How about hundreds of tips on plumbing, engine maintenance, or fiberglass repair? You’ll find all this and more in the new SailNet Gear and Maintenance section.

Articles by renowned sailing writers such as Don Casey, John Kretschmer, Kevin Jeffrey, Sue & Larry, Tania Abei, and many others are organized into 16 logical topic areas so that you can find the information you want. Thoughts on selecting gear are set side by side with explanations on installing it and maintaining it in Bristol fashion. Full articles on Do-It-Yourself repairs to hulls, decks, and hardware are included, and hundreds of new product and book reviews are conveniently gathered together.

To locate this cornucopia of sailing information, find the "Gear and Maintenance" headline under "Main Areas" on the top left-hand rail of the home page—it’s in the blue area right under the SailNet logo. Clicking on it opens the Gear and Maintenance main menu, offering you 16 topics areas from hulls, through sails and mechanical systems, and finally to clothing, gifts, and home and office decorations. Clicking on any one of these topic titles will open a list of articles grouped by easy-to-understand titles. If you are researching a new chartplotter, for instance, open the "Navigation and Electronics" section and you’ll find a long list of articles on chartplotters and electronic navigation systems at the bottom of the page under the title "Computers and Advanced Navigation."

Need help with a new prop? It's there, alongside everything else in SailNet's new Gear and Maintenance section.
SailNet has gone even further to help you become a better-informed sailor. To aid you in deciding on the proper gear and repair techniques, we’ve added more SailNet Buying Guides to the Store. These will soon have installation toolboxes and lists of accessories added to them so that you can determine what tools and parts you’ll need—no more hidden surprises after you’ve made a product choice. Find the Buying Guides at the top of the blue bar in the SailNet Store.

The Gear and Maintenance area and the SailNet Buying Guides are additional tools we offer our readers so that they can have more fun out on the water. We’re not done yet, though—more articles, more expert answers to difficult questions, and more Buying Guides will be going up on the SailNet site every day. Stop back often to check out the front page so you’ll have the latest sailing news and thoughts from the sport’s most experienced authorities.
