SailNet’s Expanded Race Coverage

There's plenty of white-knuckle action to chronicle as the fleet of maxi-cats tears around the globe.
A fleet of six sailing giants is currently bound on a 27,000-mile, no-holds-barred, around-the-globe race. With their enormous sail plans, these largely experimental 100-plus-foot craft are capable of mind-blowing speeds—20, 30, and some say, up to 40 knots of speed. As these vessels surf along ocean swells, a number of ocean sailing records stand to be rewritten, including the possibility of a new around-the-world record. The stakes have never been higher—the loads these maxi-cats generate are immense and keeping them under control will be crucial for the crews facing the merciless Southern Ocean. There is plenty of racing action and drama ahead. To that end SailNet is pleased to announce our new site devoted entirely to this unique event.

In addition to editorial insight and the latest reports chronicling the action, you'll find dramatic images in our photo gallery, video interviews with crew members, as well as a comprehensive archive of articles providing a history of the event and the teams competing in it. We'll be expanding the site as The Race evolves. Meanwhile, we extend the best wishes to the crews and teams competing in this event.

Check it all out at http://www.sailnet.com/therace/.
