Vision: A simple, aluminum, moderately-sized, performance-oriented boat capable of offshore voyaging in higher latitudes.
Materials: Aluminum with a minimum skin thickness of ¼ inch (6 mm); all deck hardware welded on; minimal exterior teak, no teak decks; lightweight cored panels for interior bulkheads, sole and furniture; wood as accent material only.
Hull design: LOA between 42 and 45 feet; moderate displacement; modern underbody; fixed keel with 6- to 8-foot draft that could be hauled on a marine railway; three collision bulkheads, two in bow and one in stern.
Rig: Powerful rig for efficient passagemaking to windward; tall rig for good light-air performance.
Layout: Protected watch-keeping station; well ventilated wet locker or head with wet locker at foot of companionway; excellent engine access, separate engine room preferred; two dedicated, all-weather passage berths; large double berth for in-port sleeping.
Tankage: Minimum of 150 gallons water and 150 gallons fuel.
