462 Engine Replacement

I'm replacing my current engine, the stock Perkins 4154. Has anybody else taken out the engine before? My mechanic says we are probably going to have to cut out the cockpit, and raise it out with a block and tackle attached the boom. I really don't want to cut a big hole in my boat if I don't have to, or mees with fixing fiberglass, paint, etc. Does anybody have any suggestions? Any help would be great.

Would have loved to take the engine apart, but it was a big piece of rust. It got severe water damage from a hurricane years ago and the owner then did nothing to try to save it. My mechanic had to cut the motor mounts off to get it out. The hole in the cockpit wasn't that big of a deal and it did make for a much easier removal/installation. Should have it complete in the next week or two.
