Re: Starrett-Jenks Morgan45 info-opinions

Went sailing this past Friday on our S&J 45 JUJU. A friend and I sailed her out the Golden Gate here in California for a very rollicking sail beyond the Farallon Islands to a point about 20 nm WSW of them. 15-20 kt wind starting out becoming 20-25 as the day progressed. W-NW winds that never abated all they the day and night. Northwesterly swells from 6-9(?) ft accompanied the winds. Bright sunny weather. Cloudless really. Clear starry night sky. First time taking her offshore that far. Full main and 85% high clewed roller furling jib was carried all day and night.
I am totally enamoured of her sailing abilities and have no hesitation of taking her to Hawaii in July. Will shadow the Pac Cup fleet most likely. Mums the word!!
It was very rough out there with lots of spray. Her bow never nose dived and her side deck only occasionally scooped water when she cleaved some of the higher waves. Her auto pilot did most of the work during the 22 hr non stop excursion. We only had to move about trimming her sails to put as less stress as possible on the pilot. I can't say enough about how happy I am with how well she handled a very rough and boisterous sea state. We each fell prey to mal de mer but am not placing the blame on this "hobby-horsing" I've heard about when referring to how these boats sail. I think my friend would have become ill no matter what boat based on our own heartiness AND the conditions of the moment.
I have enjoyed sailing on the Bay always and based on earlier accounts of her talents on this forum felt she would make a fine offshore sailing craft. Well, now I can say that based on my own experience she is all that and more. "The proof is in the pudding" has never been truer for us and JUJU.

Hi, Pierre. On Juju the number is inscribed on the starboard, upper corner of the transom. I imagine you would see the same on your boat.

Re: Starrett-Jenks Morgan45 info-opinions

Well, the voyage to Hawaii is now in full swing. A whole lotta stuff to get and install. If anyone has had to outfit a boat for blue water sailing I'm sure I have your sympathy. LOL. Excited, elated, and scared sh__less all at the same time! Wish us luck on getting it together by July 2nd. Three of us are going- one with previous experience. Leaving from Sam Francisco.

Thank you. I will check next time. I am afraid I wont find it. Transom had been modified to get a swim transom. S/n could have been removed then. Unless it is inside ?
