morgan 34 centerboard thump

I have a 1969 Morgan 34. The centerboard thumps when the boat rocks. Is this normal? Can you live with it or is it an indication that something is going to fail (and probably at the wrong time.) Thanks for any information.

Hi Patrick,

Im moving up to a Morgan 34, buyt currently have a Watkins 27 centerboard. I think I know the sound your talking about. Its just the board moving around. Do you have it cranked tight? There is always possible when the boat is rocking that ya get a little bouncing...mine doesnt do it alot, but sunday night it was hellishly windy and I heard it much miore then normal but the boat was jerking around alot. Will have to let ya know how it goes when the morgan goes in the water.
