Morgan OI 416 Alternator

 Help please - we have a 416 with a 4154 Perkins Engine and a Balmar 75amp alternator.

Question - is it normal for alternators to only produce 2/3rds their rated output?

What type/model of Delco alternator should I get for a spare? I need at least 90amps true (I am aware of the belt problems). Would a Delco large frame fit? (I am ok with disabling internal regulator)

Can't afford Balmar prices.

I installed a ford 100amp alternator with little mods.I did install a external regulator. Take the old alternator with you to the rebuild shop & have it clocked to fit.

What type of batteries are you charging? That can make a big difference. But be aware, automotive type alternators are less than optimum for deep cycle battery charging. While you might save money on an alternator, it could well be at the expense of a new battery bank.

I have used a automotive alternator for years. It's the regulator that controls the charge not the alternator.use a external regulator like a balmar.
