Carrier bearing
1976 41ft OI 414. Has anyone replace carrier bearing and how did you do it.
part number ?

I am assuming that the term "carrier bearing" refers to the bearing supporting the shaft between the transmission and the cutlass bearing. My '73 Morgan OI has the original bearing at this "half" bulkhead here and I did feel that it was warmer and noisier than it should be at a time in the past. I have been attentive to keeping it well greased. but I do expect to change it at my next haul out. I expect to pull the shaft at this time and replace the cutlass bearing too. I am not expecting difficulty in alligning the bearing. I would expect to mount it loosely at then look for a final adjustment while running it at low rpm to assure centering. I too, am looking forward to any additional advice here. Take care and joy, Aythya crew

Here is what i've found. Of course you have to move the shaft to stern. I would start lubricating the coupler. Also clean and polish the shaft so the bearing drives off easer. I'm going to run the engine at low rpm, use 600 polishing cloth with a lite oil and let the rotation off the shaft do the work. After you remove the bearing and housing you turn the bearing 90 degrees to the housing and the bearing comes out. On latter models there are set screws that hold the bearing in. I also don't think that the grease zerk does all that great of a job delivering lube.
Good luck

So, fcsob, here's a photo of my carrier bearing on my 1973 413OI:

Does this appear similar to yours? Take care and joy, Aythya crew

Yes that's it. I bought a complete bearing with housing from vxb bearing. I'm going to cut the old one off, slide the new on and set the screws.

Steve, I was looking at the SWK20 bearing from VXB for the 1-1/4" shaft. Was this your selection? My bearing is not currently noisey or hot, but it's seen a lot of use and I wan't to have a plan. Thanks, Stewart

The number we came up with is a UFC207-20. I will be installing it after the season settles down.

Steve, Is the UFC207-20 a part number for a VXB bearing? I wasn't able to come up with it in a search. Thanks, Stewart

Sorry, the number is ucf207-20.
