I recently bought my 1986 N30 MkIII and noticed considerable mast prebend. On the advice of my sailmaker I reduced the prebend to 2 inches by easing off on the forward lower shrouds. However, I noticed that under sail I have about 4+ inches of bend. Can anyone comment on this? Is this normal for the boat? I need to know as I want to order a new main and the mast bend must be accounted for in the cut.
I would expect that you need to tighten the aft lowers if you want to restrict the mast bending under load. Is there backstay tension while under sail?

There are no aft lowers on a Newport 30. Main and forwar lowers only and I have eased the forward lowers to reduce the prebend. What is normal fo a N30?
