Spreader angle?

Does anyone know what the proper angles are for the spreaders on a Newport 27?

Actually, I DO have a picture online in my album on Flickr.

Looks like there is NO angle to the spreaders.

Thanks for the pic, but my spreaders look different. Yours appear to be a foil shape, and mine are round. It does appear that yours are striaght. Thanks for the help.

I assume you are wondering at what angle to the mast. That is not all that important. They should never be below 90 degrees to the mast. The rule of thumb is, the spreader should bisect the shroud. In other words the angle of the shroud above and below the spreader should be the same. This usually but not always has the spreader tips slightly above horizontal

Hey Chicago Newport 27, do you have any pics that show your mast step. I'm curious to see the location, because my mast doesn't seem to be centered fore to aft with the upper shrouds. If you do, it would be a great help. By the way your boat looks great with the navy hull.

Sorry, this is the only photo I currently have of my mast step. I'd be happy to take a couple more photos and post them after I visit the boat tomorrow.

And thanks for noticing the new navy paintjob on the hull. I saw two Newport 27s on sale on yachtworld (this one and this one) with navy hulls, and I just knew I wouldn't be satisfied with any other color on this boat.

By the way, the paint is Interlux Perfection 2-Part Poly in Mauritius Blue, and the white botostripe is Interlux Brightsides in White.

After lowering my mast, I realized my spreaders and brackets need to be replaced. I was given a very nice set off of a catalina 30 that will need to be cut down. The brackets also have an angle upward to intersectt the shrouds. How will this effect my rig? Should I mount them in the same location?
