Neptune 24 Drains

Ahoy,
My 1979 Neptune 24 owner's manual shows that the ice box should drain to the bilge, however it just ran to a hose that was capped at the end, resulting in mold in the ice box. I am trying to figure out what route they would have taken to run it to the bilge, as there is no obvious sign that it ever was done on this boat. It looks like I should run the drain through the wall of the battery compartment and then over to the bilge.
Also the forward sink (that services the head) on my boat was never supplied water, which I am now hooking up and again trying to figure out where to run the drain? This one is tricky to figure out but I am guessing they drilled a hole in the shelf under the sink and then ran the hose somewhere from there? If anyone who has knowledge of these I would be most obliged. Cheers, Tim

Can't help with the specifics of your boat but:

See if you can drain the icebox into a small bottle like an old bleach bottle, just empty it periodically. This avoids putting any sometimes-smelly (from the odd spill or leakage) ice box melt water into the bilge. Years ago we had such a set up, the jug had to be emptied daily but it helped keep the bilges dry and clean.

Your head sink should drain through a through hull, I have seen sink drains teed into scuppers and/or intakes but don't think it's a great idea. Also, depending on your area you may be required to use a gray water tank which complicates things more still.

Odd that they installed a sink, but no water supply and no drain......

Thanks for your quick response - your suggestion of draining the ice water into a separate bottle does make good sense. It is indeed odd to have a sink with no hookups! Cheers, Tim

I have a '81 Neptune 24 and the ice box drain on mine goes to a "Y" valve under the starboard cockpit seat that also goes to the bilges and the manual bilge pump and lets you select to pump the bilge or pump out the ice box. This works well and prevents "food crap" from going into the bilge just to rot. The front sink dumps into the bilge directly under the inboard edge of the sink/vanity. Hope this helps.
