Need Newport 30 MKII fuel tank dimensions/pics

Hi,

I have a Newport 30 MKII which needs a fuel tank.
If anyone has specs, dimensions and/or pics, etc. it would be most greatly appreciated.

First time I've visitied the site in a very long time; I've never posted before and the site won't let me send a PM until I have five posts. What a PITA.

Anyway, just caught your post form December. I replaced the gas tank on my Newport 30 three years ago in connection with an Atomic 4 engine rebuild. I got the tank off the shelf from Defender and it is the very largest I could find to fit in the space without major mods; 18 gal as I recall.

Of course it is an engine pull to replace the tank, and I had to manufacture a base and special straps to hlold it. I don't remember all the particulars, my boat is forty miles away on jacks for the winter, and I don't plan to visit in the next few weeks, but if you have some time and patience I'd be glad to try and talk you through it.

Because the site won't let me send a PM and I refuse to post my email address on an open forum, we're stuck with following this thread until we get five posts. I promise to check back frequently.

I was able to locate an original 30 gallon tank that installed without pulling the engine.

Wow! Am I losing my mind or are we not talking about the same boat?

The original fuel tank in my '74 Mk II gasoline was 25 gal and it pretty much filled the original location space behind the motor and under the cockpit deck. The steel tank was glassed into place in a way which led me to conclude it was installed in the shell before the deck and cockpit liner were bolted together. Other than cutting a hole in the cockpit deck, there's no way I could have gotten the old tank out with the engine still in place.

BTW, same with the original holding tank under the V-berth.

Mine is a '78 Newport 30 MK II. The fuel tank is located starboard rear quarter under a sleeping berth. Remove the mattress, lift an wood panel cover and there it is. Both the original and replacement were glassed in but the flaps were easily cut or bent. It barely slipped in but I was able to do it and it fit perfectly into place.

I think I was really lucky to find someone relatively close in San Diego... I'm in Marina del Rey... who had the same tank.
