Damaged Bow Pulpit
I have a '78 Newport 27 that has a damaged bow pulpit. Any thoughts out there about fixing or replacement options? Also, a damaged lifeline stanchion base. Thanks

I had my rigger straighten a badly bent stern pulpit.

Re: Damaged Bow Pulpit
Usually, any impact that can damage the pulpit also rips up the bases. So you need to totally remove the pulpit and rebed the bases, new sealant, new hardware, to prevent water intrusion and major deck problems down the line.

Which is handy because usually removing the pulpit is necessary to properly repair it. Any stainless shop may be able to repair it, depending on the damage. If they weld, they also need to re-passify the steel to prevent new rust from forming.

Pictures would help, even cell phone pictures, to see how exensive the problem is. If it is just "bent" you may be able to bend it out with a come-along and some brute force. Either way, expect to fix it, then find it doesn't quite line up with the deck and the old holes, so it needs a bit more adjustment. Some careful meaasurements and a cardboard or heavy paper template, taken to the shop, can help with that.

If you're lucky there is a "tower" welder who can come out to the dock & work on it for you.

If you end up needing to replace it, try these guys: White Water Marine

I have used them and they make a good product.
