Re: Anonometer hook up

If I am understanding you only have the mast head unit and the wires are the ones coming down from the mast? If this is the case then you will need a head unit to disply or or transmit the readings. Even if Raymarine you would need a black box to connect the mast unit to before sending a signal to the plotter. I am guessing like the other said you might be better off just replacing the whole deal. if you can determine the brand of mast unit you might be able to find a head unit for it on ebay but to show on the plotter you would need NEMA output and possible for raymarine seatalk. Given the age of boat and the 7 wire I am guessing it is an old Datamarine of the like and they did not have NEMA out on their units

Judy, if you can find some local birdwatchers, they're usually friendly folks with high power telephoto cameras. You might be able to get someone to take a few pictures of the anemometer, and then try looking online to see if it can be recognized.

Unless it is one of the solid-state ones, they all do wear eventually. It might be worth looking into a proper replacement, a new VHF antenna, new masthead bulbs, etc. all at the same time and just spreading the cost of a trip up the mast, give everything up there routine care at the same time. the wallet still will hurt, but less so in the long run.

Re: Anonometer hook up

Most likely someone updated your instruments and never did use the anemometer after that because the cable didn't fit. Without knowing the brand of the masthead unit it will be tough to get any info on the wiring arrangement.. And in any event there's a high likelihood they wouldn't be compatible anyway.

It was probably just too much work to go up and remove the old unit... If you can get up there maybe you'll see a brand/model marking.. you'd need that to even get started trying to sort this out.

EDIT.. btw please avoid posting the same question in multiple forums or multiple times...

Anonometer hook up

Hi All,
Our Anomometer was not hooked to our RayMarine series c80 series display when we purchased our boat (Morgan 45.) Unlike typical Raymarine Anomometer which has a five wire cable, ours has a seven wire cable. Not sure of manufacturer of our unit. Any ideas on how to make the two talk short of having to climb the mast and replace the unit?

Much thanks,
Judy and Kusuru
