Mine is definitely a volvo, well that is, volvo head gaskets fit the last time i did them !!
But good thought on the "MD17", the heads look the same at a glance without pulling them or the covers off, same layout of bits and pieces, same looking Hex Key oil fill caps, decompression set up etc etc. However it is painted red and not your standard volvo green, but anyone can paint an engine! Are perkins red by standard issue??
I did look at the engine number (didn't write it down though!) there was no brand name left on the engine number plate (been in the weather a while!!!) but I will go and see if i can find the engine number. I will see what google yields if i can decipher the engine number.
anymore thoughts please anyone?

Re: Volvo MD11 - MD17 part compatibility
I have seen a lot of Volvo's are really Perkins engines with a Volvo marine kit attached to them. Look around your engine for the name plate on the engine block. Don't be surprise if it says Perkins. If so parts are available everywhere. I would than pull the engine model number off both engines and than run a comparison of part numbers with your friendly Volvo engine parts store.

Volvo MD11 - MD17 part compatibility
I am new around here, so forgive possible silly questions.
I have a Volvo MD11C and have found an old MD17 that i can get parts from for future use...
heads, bores, starter motors... are they compatible with the MD11C ?? or am i just wishing that this would be the case?
