How about some pictures of the Alberg, a bit more info, location and asking price?

Re: Alberg 30 - Yah or Nay!

I have an Alberg 30 for sale I think is out of your price range that has had a total restoration in 2007, new Awlgrip hull, bottom totally faired and painted, new main, new jib, new cabin cushions and totally bright varnished exterior teak, new Beta Marine 3 cylinder diesel with only 75 fresh water hours. It was kept on a lake with over 600 miles of shore line, 300 plus islands and surrounded by mountains. The reason I am writing to you is that we have been out sailing on 5 to 15 winds and that would pipe up to 30 plus knots with gusts to over 50 and we would bring the man down, furl the jib and have a wonderful sail(at 8+ knots over the bottom) while everyone else would pull in and hunker down.So we have sailed in the Bahamas(other boats) and I would 100% recommend that this design would be perfect from both a sailing and safety perspective. I met a guy this past weekend who owns a Hunter 40, he feels that he has to pack it in when the winds hit 20 knots. Wonderful design, sturdy wonderful boat. Good luck and have fun.

I Actually pulled out for various reasons. Boat was sold to a Canadian buyer and was moved. Too many other options for later model boats. And as you point out to many open items. Thanks for the input.

Ill will close this thread as purchased a 1986 33ft boat instead.

I am familiar with this boat and this seller and I must advise you to go forward very carefully. Not only were misrepresentations made to me but there was also a question of the Marina where it is at having a claim to a brokers fee which he was trying to either duck or let the new owner deal with. Make sure you are able to get free and clear title. I would not accept the old survey as being valid for the present.Good luck!

Re: Alberg 30 - Yah or Nay!

Yes there are some nightmares out there, I think I avoided one on this boat, so still looking.

I had a buddy go check the boat out, and between the survey and then - so a period of about a year and half on the hard, there had been some significant delamination, soft spots around some of the fittings as were not re-bedded.

I also hunted down and spoke to the owner before last and there was also some significant accident damage to hull in 2001, and some concerns over engine, that was not new, but second hand so hours may be off.

So dropped out

I saw some very scary pics recently where someone had gone for the same effect, but they simply cut very large cutouts from the existing bulkheads! I thought the same thing when you mentioned that other boat, but I see that the owner rebuilt the supporting structure. It appears to be well done.

Congratulations on the A30! I hope you stick around and provide updates.

Yes - on reflection that makes sense. That is a great idea. Not sure I am up for that challenge but the open area makes it look much larger. Actually with a composting toilet it's probably easier. Anyway will save the over ambition at this stage

However I personally would have spent those $$$ on a larger boat...and I can only assume it was geared for more of the lone sailor armed with a port-a-potty.

Not sure his wife will be happy with that choice...but I think its great!
Looking at the pics, it looks like he moved the head compartment aft, to the port side of the companionway. Interesting idea.
