Re: Mounting electronics on a pedestal guard

I looked for a picture of my swing mount but couldn't find one. I originally had one that was mounted around both pedestal tubes, but I sit forward of the steering station quite a bit so I found that I would constantly have to move aft to view the chart plotter. I redid it and mounted it around a single tube. The mount is just narrow enough that it swings between the pedestal guards. I can view it from any place in the cockpit just by swinging it around.

I made a teak mounting board that sits between the pedestal guards, but I only mounted it on one of the upright tubes so I can swing it around and see the display whether I'm sitting aft or forward.

Mainesail, I can't quite figure out how you got the Starboard part over the verticals of the guard... it just has 1" holes in, right?

You beat me to it! Rammount stuff is really great and they have adapters for EVERYTHING.

You guys are the best!! I just ordered a mount from SNAPIT, and I think it will work great. Thanks for the help.

badsanta I bought a stearboard cup holder that mounts to the tubing. Then removed the top cup ring and mounted my handhealed gps to the flat base. Works great. Did the ICW from the c &d to miami no problems

I bought one of the Snapit things at West, mounted the swivel base that came with my Garmin to that, and mounted the Snapit on the pedestal guard. Cost about $20, looks good and has lasted for years.
Has added benefit of being able to swivel to any direction, so I can see my plotter no matter where I am in the cockpit.

Check used marine stores (or eBay) for NavPod's that you can modify to fit your unit. In Seattle Second Wave has a selection of them, some cheap, some expensive, and it's often random which is which. I've even seen unused ones cut out for a specific unit.

I like Maine Sail's approach, though it would get messy if it were a unit with more than one cable (my e7D has 3 cables). Those clamps are also $32/ea, so it's a bit cheaper than a cut to fit NavPod, but not hundreds cheaper.

I do wish there were some cheaper options.
