Re: Launch Time after thru-hull replace

for sure, either of the fast cure 4000/4200 will do the trick....both enjoy moisture in causing the reaction and skins in a few hours, cure in a couple of days.

I am not familiar with the 291, except that it is similar.

good to go, best of luck

Re: Launch Time after thru-hull replace

DrB, the spec sheet for Sikaflex 291 claims you should wait one full week prior to immersion in water. Google "sikaflex 291, datasheet" and you'll find a PDF file to open. I suspect there would be no problem waiting less than a week, but perhaps the people at Sika can give you some telephone or email support in this regard.

Perhaps 3M 4200 doesn't have the one-week waiting period, but I've only used Sika products so I can't say.

Launch Time after thru-hull replace

I looked around for this info and got some different info/opinion. The yard that I am in was going to pull two through hulls, last week, for me and I would reinstall them this past w/e and launch this upcoming Saturday (May 4).

If they were to do it today and I was to reinstall them tomorrow (Tuesday), could I still launch Saturday? I'd be using Sika-Flex 291 or 3M 4200 as the adhesive. Temps are in the 60-70*F during the day and 40's at night.

The Thru-Hulls don't leak, but they do need to be replaced either this year or next. If I can do it this year and still get in the water this Saturday, I'd seriously consider it. If not, I'll do at haul out.
