Letrappes If you are set on the Texas coast I would suggest areas from Freeport south. That's where the water changes from looking like mud to getting clearer. I hear Matagorda Bay has some nice small towns around it but I haven't visited them.

Re: Where to anchor?

If you're alone and likely to stay that way I'd suggest that you could look smaller.. esp if you're looking at boats less that 10 years old. Some very liveable 32-36 footers out there and that means easier loads and handling, reduced costs on gear, maintenance and moorage in perpetuity.

Coastal cruising or daysailing to and from 'home'? Jaunts to Mexico or Florida? makes a difference as to any boat suggestions.

Where to anchor?

Hello all: My last post was way back in 2012. I have been researching, living aboard, boats and where to call my home port. I am leaving the land locked area of New Mexico and have been researching areas to move to. Seattle, too cold, San Diego, too expensive and a minimum 3 year wait for a slip, Hawaii not enough marinas to support live aboard and the crime rate is huge. So that takes care of the West coast and Hawaii. So now I am looking at the Texas Gulf coast. Any thoughts out there on the Texas Gulf marinas?
I need access to population as I am a Medicare Insurance agent and still need to make a living.
I am considering a minimum of 38 feet to 42 feet of boat, I would like feed back on the type of boat and rigging that is best for the Gulf and Mexico sailing.
I am a master craftsman with tools that I plan to keep in a "Office warehouse" space on land. However I do not want a "Project" boat.
I am single and only answer to myself, so I am very flexible.
Thank you for your thoughts.
