Re: Nebraska sailor

Welcome! I grew up in Omaha, first learned to sail on some of the small lakes around there, and also did a bit of sailing on Lake McConaughy. Nebraska doesn't have a lot of lakes, but there are plenty of opportunities to hone your sailing skills around the state.

As for a mast and boom, there is a Yahoo group for Holder 12 owners; should be able to find some help there. Holder12 : Holder12

Good luck!

From that far away, you can't see the PVC. I was going to say that I can't imagine people making redneck jokes, but people are cruel, so unfortunately, I can. But I think most of us here would think that's a pretty simple solution to the problem of getting that boat onto the water. Personally, I've seen a lot worse.

And don't be ashamed of your $150 boat. I bought my Albacore for $100. Sailing isn't about the cost of the boat, it's about the value of the time you get to spend aboard.

I wouldn't let people pointing at you be the reason that you're looking for new spars and rigging. Most of 'em are jealous because they aren't out there on a boat at all.

OK, stepping down from my soap box now. Welcome aboard!

Howdy. Brand new sailor from Western Nebraska. We don't have much water but we make up for it in wind. I am in my fifties and have recently started sailing in my 150 dollar Hobie Holder12. I don't have a real sail, been using a wind surfer sail and mast modified with some PVC pipe applications. Everytime I go sailing I see people pointing and making redneck jokes. The rig needs alot of wind to become sporty, but I have learned to getaround the lake despite the crudeness. The main reason I joined this site was trying to get some info on where to obtain a replacement or other mast and boom which would work for my boat.
