Re: New Smartphone App

So far I find the Skipper a nice compliment to my other nav software (mounted and mobile). I typically like to compare to my paper NOAA charts and this allows you to do that.

Plan2Nav by Jepperson.

Downloaded Jepperson Plan2Nav onto my Android tablet but I cannot for the life of me figure out if there is a "find boat" function.

Anyone else using this App who knows more than I ?

I am going to move this thread to the new App section.

Re: New Smartphone App

I am one of the Skipper developers (Andrew).

I'd be happy to give any member of Sailnet a free copy of the app, along with all of the subscription features and data. Please send an email to support [at] tryskipper.com

Right now, we're very interested in feedback on using the app in different scenarios, so we can improve it.

I'd also be happy to answer any questions about Skipper

Re: New Smartphone App

I can't say that I've used it much, but I have the iPhone app iSailor with and an East Coast map on it. Pretty good. I just have it as a backup on the sailboat or little power boat.

Re: New Smartphone App

I would really like to see the Jeppesen/CMap app in action. My brother has one of those phones so will have to talk him into getting the app. I use Sailcruiser and Cmap now on a laptop and really like the software. They've been at it a long time and have great support. I haven't seen any other sail-specific plotting software that will calculate and plot the best tack headings, based on polars. I'm sure that is not YET in the phone app.

Your weather app looks great!

Re: New Smartphone App

Here's another entrant using the NOAA charts: Skipper | NOAA charts for iPhone and iPad

I'm not in the US but it doesn't seem like they've got the scaling for the various zoom levels quite right yet. Their pricing model seems to be charging for offline use for when you're out of cell phone range. I don't know how I'd feel about using it as a primary source but I can see using it to pre-plan a trip. They're building out their website too to add most of the functionality there.

I wrote a MAFOR decoder iPhone app, mostly because I wanted it myself. I'd love any feedback.

New Smartphone App

Wow. This smartphone technology is getting out of hand. Now Jeppesen and CMaps are on board with the next step to cheap and sophisticated electronic navigation. Guess I'm going to have to buy one of the blasted things sooner or later.
