It also has a longer wooden mast that you can see fixed to the aluminium mast near its base, a little above the boom. Our issue is firstly how do we go about raising and then fixing the wooden mast in place? Following that how do we go about hoisting the sail up the mast or should it be put in place before the wooden mast is raised?

The wooden mast has a bracket part way up that is shown in close up.

Any help or guidance is much appreciated.

Hi Leon,
Did you manage to sort out the rigging? I have just stumbled upon this post. I also have a Nipper dinghy, it has been in my family from new, I think since about 1955. If you haven't already worked it out I will have a go at describing it. The rig is known as Gunter rigged. The wooden section is the Gunter. Slide the sail on to the Gunter and attach it at the top. Slide the sail on the boom. There should be a goose neck fitting at the bottom, the same as on the boom that slots into the track on the aluminium mast. Attach the halyard (rope) that comes out of the pulley at the top of the alluminium mast to the bracket half way up the Gunter. Hoist the Gunter and sail so the fitting shown in your picture to the top of the aluminium mast. Pull down the boom to tension the luff. Sorry I don't have any pictures.

Hope this helps.

Nipper Dinghy Rigging Help/Advice Needed

Hi,

We have acquired a Nipper dinghy that was left to us but we're not totally sure how the rigging works. Please see attached pictures for the set up.

It has a short aluminium mast that is permanently fixed with a pulley wheel in the top. It also has a longer wooden mast that you can see fixed to the aluminium mast near its base, a little above the boom. Our issue is firstly how do we go about raising and then fixing the wooden mast in place? The wooden mast has a bracket part way up that is shown in close up.

Any help or guidance is much appreciated.

Leon
