I just aquired a Westerly Pageant 23. Needs some work but nothing that I can't handle. Found it in the highdesert of Central Oregon of all places!

Re: Westerly section??

OK, I'm deep in thought about buying the 32' Renown that is currently for sale in south Florida. Please talk me out of it! I'm a newbie (sailed for several decades growing up in VA), I want to spend a few years preparing for bluewater adventures and the price is just silly. Which causes me to say, "if it sounds too good to be true, then it's probably too good to be true!".

Westerly section??

When their adjuster came and looked at the boat he said it would not be much and asked me what I thought the boat was worth, I told him look at all the equipment I and upgrades I made in the 20 plus years I owned it so I wasn't going to give him a number. He told me to get estimates and get back to him so I did. 3 estimates from boat yards cheapest at 18000. He said the boat was worth 8000 because it had an outboard on a bracket for power. I told him sometimes cruising boats store dingy motors on the stern and come check out the 18 horse diesel that runs fine. Then showed him receipts for 10000 worth of gear I had for everything I did. Then I talked to lawyers who said I should have said I was hurt and all I would get is market value. They dragged this out over a year so when they offered 11000 I took it. Now we are selling our town home and my wife wants to cruise so I am getting a bigger boat but will miss the Westerly.

Re: Westerly section??

What did they try to give you, if you don't mind me asking?

I've had two power boats rafted already try dragging into me, with "fifty foot of chain out" , that was subsequently pulled up in like ten seconds on the windlass. Yeah, ok buddy . Sure you had fifty feet out. Should have asked where to send the salvage bill to... They actually drug into two other boats, sail, that were rafted. No one onboard any of the vessels. I was able to keep them from pounding into each other. Only a scrape on the pb gel coat from the sailboats bow pulpit. Deposit in the karma bank that day.

Westerly section??

He in me head on doing 30 kts on a clear day while I was sailing about 3.5 kts. He had about 5 girls in bikinis and wasn't paying attention. I was thrown off the boat and my uncle held on. We were both okay and Law enforcement came to the scene and said he wasn't drunk but at fault so his insurance co paid up after much arguing about value. No matter what you do say you are hurt because they only pay fair market value. And fair isn't so fair!

Westerly section??

Owned my Centaur since 1989 and someone is about to buy her. Her front end was damaged in a collision with a powerboat so I sold her as project boat. Great little cruiser. I can't post links yet but 3 of my cruises on her are on Youtube: Sailing the Keys , Sailing to the Keys spring 2011, and Sailing the Keys Spring 2012 all by Centaursailing.
