Need a new tiller? How? Where?

Hello!

The new boat (Lido 14) that I just purchased needs a new tiller. Is it best to build one? Or Purchase? I plan on just cruising for the time being. No plans for racing yet. If I need to build one, are there plans for such a thing? If I need to purchase one where is the best place to look? (I know that wd sells them but they are almost 100 dollars =/)

Here is a photo of my rudder assembly:

How does the tiller connect to the rudder? What pieces am I missing?

Looks like you are missing a long bolt & nut that attach the tiller to the rudder assembly.

You can make your own tiller. You can get very fancy or very basic.
A piece of 2"x3" wood stud could be shaped ... or
you could get a nice piece of mahogany ... or
get mahogany & ash and laminate strips together ... or
use a hunk of pipe as the tiller and forget about aesthetics.

Of course you can also buy one.

Cheap? What about a tree limb? They are free, just laying around.
I was going to suggest a wheel barrow handle but someone already did.
Wheel barrow handles are strong, clear grain and maybe the correct length.
