I've bought the GoPro dive housing and wow, what difference it makes in the image sharpness and quality

There are aftermarket housings designed to improve the GoPro's imaging performance underwater. To to ScubaBoard - Scuba Diving Forum - Diving Social Network - ScubaBoard Home and poke around there. Many threads on the subject.

If the water's clear you can also do a cursory inspection with a mechanic's mirror on a stick..
