Re: Home made exhaust riser - mixing elbow

The Universal 5411 on my previous boat came with an exhaust loop made out of standard pipe fittings. When it came time for replacement, a trip to Home Depot resulted in all the black iron pieces (elbows, nipples, tee, etc) needed. Total cost about $30.

I replaced the U-type exhaust elbow on my current Yanmar 3GM30F this spring. Cost from the local dealer was about $150. Not terrible. If that's what's on your engine, that's how I would go.

I'm doing the same project using the same web site for reference. Going to get started as soon as my new exhaust flange arrives. Planning a basically identical setup, maybe just a little more rise.

Home made exhaust riser - mixing elbow

Hi all, I am about to replace the riser/mixing elbow on my Yanmar 3gm30 and I found this chap who built his own. It looks like a logical and cheap solution! Has anyone out there created one of these?? Let me know please what you all think. I am not trying to simply be cheap, just looking for options to this seemingly common problem.

Thanks, bunches!
