There are other designs with toggles but the fork in conjunction with the U-bolt style chain plates my boat employs are toggles in themselves. The turnbuckle body is not ideal but I figured two scribe marks and a dedicated tuning tape measure would solve this design flaw. I am more interested to see if anyone has a reservation based on their experience with the manufacturing quality? All the machinery at my job is stainless but I know that if you take care in torque application, keep threads clean, and use antisieze that it is as reliable as other metals. Has anyone used one for a shroud and seen it fail or really gall up?
Also, they make a bronze open body but I will have to see if this is available with the quick attach...
I like the concept but would not use these for two reasons:
1. The turnbuckle fork does not have an integrated toggle
2. Closed body turnbuckles do not let you see how much thread is left for adjustment.
Just one opinion, worth exactly what you paid for it.
I just bought, and installed, 2 Suncor Lifeline kits. Thus far, I am impressed with the ease of installation, and the lifetime warranty. The fittings look great, but note that the wedges are magnetic, and I am doubtful that they are stainless steel. Also note that Suncor recommends a dab of silicone where the wire enters the cone to keep water out.
Made by Suncor and fabricated out of 316 SS. Any experience or opinions would be appreciated. These are cost effective and have been tested and approved by both Lloyds and This Old Boat. I am planning on swaged upper fittings and mechanical lowers and am also interested in new turnbuckles as the age of mine more than likely makes them a liability. I completely understand the argument in favor of bronze for turnbuckles and know the limitations of stainless, I work with it at my job exclusively. I am however confident that with regular maintenance and applications of antiseize stainless can be as effective and reliable. I have U Bolt style chain plates that require a jaw lower turnbuckle anchor.
