sailingdog I do hope that they're bronze, not brass. Brass isn't a very good material for use on sailboats, as it tends to dezincify and then becomes very weak...rather quickly.

I don't know what to recommend for the exterior framing as I don't know what the boat or the ports look like... however, I can make a suggestion that you use a "wick" on the forward port to drain off the water that gathers in it. It is essentially a piece of cloth that overlaps the bottom of the port and hangs over the side...and it wicks the water out of the port whenever there is condensation or spray gathered there. Pretty primitive but fairly effective.

Need ideas for exterior frames for 8" diameter portholes

I have two very nice brass portlights that open to the inside. The outside edge is flush with the outside cabin wall. I don't know how to dress this up. Do these things usually come with frames or what?
The other problem is the forward porthole is at aprox. 75 degree angle, so it always fills up with water after a rain. I don't dare open it without first sponging out the water. What should I do?
At present, the portholes are out because I've been making cabin repairs.
