Here are mine:

1. Finish teaching myself Celestial Navigation;

2. Learn about and obtain general license for Ham Radio; and

3. Sail directly to Block Island/Eastern L.I. in longer coastal hop from Norfolk or Cape May.

The steps I have taken so far:

1. Bought all materials and started reading.
2. Checked out library books, read licensing requirements and started reading.
3. Continuing to improve boat to make it more seaworthy and capable.

What are your Sailing-Related Goals for 2014?

We both got our license. I decided that I won't cross the line into true radio geekdom as long as I don't memorize my call sign or put a 10-foot whip antennae on my car.

Now we've decided to go for the Extra Class license.

Still not a geek though.

Hey,

My goals are:
-Get the new-to-me boat into good condition (some cosmetics and updated / new gear)
-Sell the old boat (O'day 35)
-Spend more nights aboard than last year (spent about 10 nights aboard over the course of the season)
-Do some more casual racing

There's too much uncertainty in my life to make a resolution with any honesty.

I'll just say that I'd really, really like to solo around Delmarva this summer. I'd like to do it with my SPOT transmitter working, and I'd like to host a little send-off BBQ at my house before I go.

If that fails, I'll settle for more time on the water.

Re:I've resolved to make our anchorages a little quieter in 2014.

When our kids were learning to talk, we'd play that silly 'sounds' games.

"What sound does a dog make?"…'Woof', they'd mimic.

"What does a cow make?",….'Moooooooooooooooo', they'd moan.

And we had a family favorite. "What sound does a sailboat make?" … 'ssssssssssssssssssssssss', they would hiss, softly, with a smile.

So for our two sailing terriers, we have installed Citronella Bark Collars. Amazing! One bark, and they were transformed. Now I'm confident we can eliminate any barks in a quiet anchorage, or under sail.

And I will find a permanent spot to mount a solar panel. These improvements should cut down on our motoring, decrease 'woof', and increase our, "ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss".

Happy New Year. 'ssssssssssssssssssss'

Hmmm....good idea. Let's see, my goals for the new year are going to be:

1) Get "Wind Angel" off the hard and back in the water after her 7 year, PO imposed, drying out.

2) Get the storage locker empty so that I can afford to slip her-hence, less trailering, more sailoring.

3) Get some major rebuilds done on her-- bright work, mechanical rebuilds, buffing and polishing, bottom coating, and wood work,--especially that ugly delapidated two piece, non-marine plywood, piano hinged peeling rusted old companionway hatch!! It just kills me to look at it! Come to think of it, if I jsut get that damn hatch replaced with drop boards, I may be able to live patiently unti the other repairs are made.

Get rid of the house and associated junk then move on to the boat permanently......:)

1) rig boat for more convenient single-handing
2) crew on racing boats to gain sail-trim skills
3) crew on boat in Greek Islands with my wife (to help celebrate our 30th anniversary - already booked :))
4) single-hand a one-shot crossing of Georgian Bay - from Hope to Killarney (approx. 22 hours)
4) help my wife gain confidence in helming - she did most of it last year as a result of a shoulder injury and was taking the boat out of the marina by the end of the season. This year she says she wants to become confident in docking.
5) sail, sail, sail.....

Get a boat. I'm moving up to the 80's this time.
80 feet huh, wow, that's a big boat :laugher

My first little boat is sitting out next the garage under a tarp right now, I've never even sailed it.

My 2014 goal is sail it as much as I've been imagining sailing it! It needs some changes to the rigging to make it easier to single-hand, but I've decided that I should get it on the water and sail it for a bit before I make any big decisions about how to rig it.

1. Sail more
2. get my boat in the water and sail it
3. cure cancer
4. get a sailing dinghy and sail it
5. continue planning/reasearching and figure out where my first long(ish) trip will be. to

I figure if I do any one of these it will be a good year.

Mine is simple, to spend more time with friends on the water. Be it an evening drink, a twilight race, or a day sail - it is my intent to spend time with my sailing friends actually sailing or at least at anchor :)
