|garyp||I think you will find the Pearson to be a better built boat than the Irwin, although this is a generalisation since I am not specifically familiar with the Irwin 30. Neither boat would be my choice for the trip you plan. The Pearson 30 or any of the various earlier 32 models are more seaworthy vessels, and probably not too far pricewise from the Irwin or P28. That said, I agree with sticking with the boat you know. There is nothing wrong with an Atomic 4 if it is in good condition.|

If you've done most of the work on the Pearson yourself, I'd stick with it. Knowing how a boat is built, and how things are put together on it are priceless when you've got a problem and the conditions aren't friendly for fixing it.
How much do you know about diesel engines? It sounds like you know the Atomic 4 fairly well by this point in time.

1972 Irwin 30
I haven't been on here inna while. Last year I bought a Pearson P-28-1 which I have been working on and off with. I just about have her ready to haul to the Texas coast with plans to go to Central America. She is pretty much a bare bones boat, but I have endeavored to fix some neglected problems and have decided to keep the A-4 engine.
Here's a new dilemma....I have been approached by a party who has an Irwin 30 already in the water on the coast with a running diesel engine. The boat looks to be in reasonably good shape. The draft is a little more than my P-28, but still acceptable.
Has anyone had any offshore experience with these Irwin's and , if so, how do they stack up against the Pearson's? I am very happy with the construction of my P-28.
