camaraderie Mark...it all depends on the officials...not the law. That's why I suggest talking with one as you check in at the BRIDGE...not Philipsburg. Be up front about your plans...as long as you look PRESENTABLE...and treat them with respect they will most likely approve of your plans. I have not done this myself but have heard of others doing it and I CAN say that the crew at the bridge was laid back and pleasant. Just don't go in and on the 90th day ask for an extension...let them know up front. They like booaters and money...but don't like derelicts and trouble makers and that is who the rules are for.

Mkfcdl Just talked to immigration in St Maarten. Apparently, it is acceptable to clear out of the Dutch side, spend at least 24 hours on the French side (check in there and then clear out), and then return to the Dutch side to restart the 90 day stay or whatever amount is on your clearance papers. Can anyone confirm this to be actual practice?

camaraderie Mark...if you talk to the officials at the lagoon bridge on checking in...they may be willing to extend your stay IF you are up front about it. Otherwise...ask if checking in on the French side will qualify as an exit!! (G)

Mkfcdl Guilietta:

Sorry for not clarifying my question: this pertains to a U.S. boat/sailor entering St Maarten.

Giulietta Funny..I was never told you can't stay more than 90 days in St. Marteen.

You can stay as long as you want...

Staying longer than 90 days in St Maarten

Just curious about this since it seems lots of folks spend most of the winter season in Simpson Bay in St Maarten. How can you get around the 90 day stay limit on a sailboat? Can you check out, sail to a neighboring island for a few days, and then return to St Maarten with a new 90 day clock upon clearance?

Thanks in advance,
Mark
