We use this Wichard key-pin w/bar shackle:
Wichard Shackle - key pin with bar 81434 Sailnet.com - community, sailing resources, shopping, sail, blogs
It can be opened by hand but it requires strong fingers; so it should not open while hoisted. The pin is captive so you don't need to worry about it falling out when open. The pin keeps the shackle from turning sideways while hoisting. Easier than using a shackle knife each time you stow the halyard. I don't like the similar Ronstan product because I have seen them self-open when well-worn.

Generally, I'm against quick release shackles for mainsail halyards. I think the captive pin screw shackles are generally better for this purpose, since you don't often change mainsails. Using a quick-release shackle makes sense for a jib or spinnaker, but not so much for a mainsail

Opinion on Wichard Quick Release Shackle?
Out of curiosity... I have a Wichard quick release shackle (this is an example but not the same size I have) for my mainsail halyard. Do you think this is as good as, worse, or better for the application than a captive pin thimble shackle? Just getting a second opinion...
