You have not been in Cleveland lately! Certainly, like most large cities (and small ones for that matter) there are places that are not nice and that you don't want to spend much time in. However, the Cleveland waterfront is alive and well today. No longer the armpit of N. America that it was once noted as. Shopping, restaurants, great sports venues.

|Valiente||They could be former collateral for sub-prime loans. I was quite shocked yesterday to learn that 1 in 10 houses in Cleveland had been foreclosed, and that a large percentage of them had been vandalized for their copper pipe, wiring and other metals. Cleveland looks like an insta-slum in places now...and it wasn't so nice a place to begin with.|

That is a great question that I am interested in as well. My main point in asking the original question was to find the best venue to explore what is out there as I am still new to sailing.
I definitely will do my research beforehand. For example, my wife and I want to get our own life vests so I will gather prices on them before I go. Just in case I run into a really good deal.

Do you really find good deals on gear at these shows? I ask this after years and years of experience in going to various kinds of "sales" affairs related to a couple of other hobbies. Generally I've found lots of stuff for sale at these, but no real deals, per se. (I don't regard 10 or 15 percent off MSRP as much of a "deal," btw.) Now I don't bother, anymore, unless I just want to go look at the stuff. I don't think I'll be going all the way to Annapolis just to look at the stuff. Probably not even Chicago. And the Detroit boat show is all stinkboats.
Btw: For those in the Metro-Detroit area: Something was going on at Metro Beach yesterday. A bunch of tents. Bunches and bunches of boats on the hard and tied-up alongside. Most all the ones on the water had "FOR SALE" signs on 'em. Mostly stinkboats, but there were some small sailboats on trailers there.

Looks like it will be Strictly Sailing again and then try to plan a trip to Annapolis. Just have to map out where O'Leary's Seafood Restaurant is...

|Sailormann||Must have missed those... I didn't spend a lot of time at the boats. Primarily go to look at the new fittings and gear.|

|Valiente||J-Boats? Hanse? There's a few, but admittedly, it's more powerboat-oriented. Lots of deals on ancillary stuff, though.|
