I stay away from town that day but it''s crowded. The Charles rivers nickname is "the muddy" so one guess about the bottom. I''ve heard it takes most of the night to get out of the locks so I''d plan on staying the night. I you want to tie up to the small island get there a day or two early.

Has anybody sailed/motored up the Charles River on the 4th of July? I have a few questions about the locks and anchoring.
