sailingdog I haven't read any books specifically on solar charging systems, but many of the more general books do touch on it. If you really need more information regarding solar power, your best bet is to talk to one of the bigger vendors. Many will be more than happy to answer questions about a possible setup.

One good piece of advice is that if you do go with solar, get a MPPT-type solar charge controller, like a BlueSky or Outback. These will allow the panels to be used more efficiently than would otherwise be possible.

daren23 Check out Nigel Calder's 'Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual.'

zakrobinson Good info, thanks. Also, does anyone know of specific books that have information on solar charging systems?
Thanks again all,
Zak

sailingdog Zak-

Don Casey's The Complete Illustrated Boat Maintenance Manual or Don Casey's This Old Boat, Dan Spurr's Boatbook—Upgrading the Cruising Sailboat, are good books to start with.

bestfriend Fiberglass books I don't know. Learned from surfboards. Electrical, I believe Nigel Calder's is one, there are many more. Just bought a few, but they are on the boat. Do an amazon search, and the members here will have lots of ideas. Keep checking back.

Resources for fiberglass and electrical

Im looking for books and internet resources on fiberglass repair and marine wiring. I picked up a Columbia C28 that needs some through hulls pulled and glassed over, cracks need to be repaired, soft spots drilled and filled.

Also I need a reference guide to completely re-wire the boat.

I have a decent understanding of wiring and electrical but I have very little fiberglass repair.

Thanks for the help
Zak
