Just in case any one else has a laguna 30, (and a little late ), here is my fix for the sloppy bearings, which turned out to be a lower and an upper tube sleeve lined with a teflon like liner. The rudder came out easily, and I found that the upper sleeve was worn just where the sleeve is bonded to the cockpit sole,(auxiliary rudder point). I purchased a 12x12inch x 1/32 inch, sheet of teflon etched on one side, and repaired the upper edge of the upper sleeve with a glue supplied. One full season with lots of sailing, and the repair is still good

IIRC, the Laguna 30 was originally a tiller steered boat, so the Edson steering pedestal is likely an owner installed upgrade. If that is the case, then it is very unlikely that the steering bearings, at least on the rudder post itself are Edson.
BTW, I've only been on a Laguna about four times, when I was helping commission one last fall.

laguna 30 rudder bearings
I bought an '85 Laguna 30 last year, and want to replace the rudder bearings , as the rudder is quite sloppy .Is anyone familiar with this boat ? the steering is Edson are the bearings likely to be Edson ?
