CP is falling for the darkside again...he's drooling over a powerboat. :)

oh, look, sumpin shiny... teak, shiny teak, good, yea, shiny teak, that teak shure is shiny, pretty teak, yea, 15 minutes to Wapner.

I think CP is a human-shaped ferret, considering how easily shiny objects distract him.

Dog,
I'm just as inclined towards sailing as you but I'm naturally just a bit suspicious of anyone who couldn't consider a few uses that such a "stink-pot" couldn't be put to use in. (g) On one of those swealtering August days with absolutely zero wind, the CardioKid and I will wave to you as we tow some of those nubile young maidens about water-skiing. And no one will doubt that, if we do a "On Golden Pond" number, that we didn't go out smiling!

I'm with you sway.
Love some of the old classics.
That Hinkley would be a great Boat for the Chicago to Miami run.

How much fuel would that take???

Sway-

I never said that powerboats don't have their uses.... I just don't drool over them... I've seen the fuel dock bills that are attached to some of them... not pretty at all.

Beautiful Hinckley CD, it actually looks like a Hinckley Talaria 40, soft top - there are a few hardtops at our marina, since the Hinckley Portsmouth facility is right next door.

Regarding SD's fuel cost anxiety , if a boat owner chooses to drop a million bucks on essentially, a large runabout, I highly doubt fuel consumption is a big issue. If I had the money, I'd certainly own one (along with a B40).

One of my current clients is a long-time owner of performance sailing yachts - building another summer home for him in Newport. He said he's getting a Hinckley express to ferry back and fourth from his dock to the New York Yacht Club, on Newport Harbor.

Hey Cardiac Paul,

Thanks for sharing those photos. That is an amazing sailing yacht!! Where exactly did you see it??

As for stinkpots, I'm going to make an AFOC confession here: While sailing is my primary passion, I also appreciate certain motorboats.

Just this week I received the plans for what I hope will be my next boat-build: It's a shallow draft (6") tunnel drive seabright skiff, powered by an inboard diesel engine. I'm not worried about fuel costs -- the 20hp, 3 cylinder Betamarine engine that I will most likely use burns about .25-.33 gallons per hour at normal operating range. Think of it as a poor man's Hinckley, but more rugged and capable.

I give you Rescue Minor, by William Atkin:

S/V Parlay (actually a motorsailer) has been a summer visitor to Newport RI. I recalled seeing her, when she was docked at the Newport Shipyard - so did a search.

Here's an excerpt from the NSY website, which profiles the (back then) captain:
NSY Personality: Niall Rafferty
November 7, 2006
Captain of the formidable 127-foot Alden-designed motor-sailer Parlay, Niall Rafferty has spent more than a decade sailing large cruising boats in and out of Newport for rigging, painting and other projects. A native of Ireland, but now a U.S. Citizen and resident of Florida, "Raf" has been captain of Parlay since February.

With his five full-time and six part-time crew, Raf is currently managing a long list of service and repairs onboard Parlay at Newport Shipyard before they head south during the first week in December bound for St Barth's. "The Shipyard is great, it's downtown and has the big boat facilities we require," said Rafferty.
Parlay, built in 1991 at Ortova Navi in Italy for Leslie Quick and his family, will spend the first part of the winter in the Caribbean and then will head back to Florida for January and February. They plan to participate in the St Barth's Bucket in March before heading back to New England in the Spring.

As a bit of a size comparason, take a look at the MOB collar vs. the size of the block.

they're both at the Palm Beach Yacht club on Flagler, Downtown West Palm Beach.

The owner of the Hinckley said it was a T38R.
Took delivery a month ago.
Twin465 Volvo's 435HP jet drive. 300gal. fuel.
