Raising the boom?

I was told the C&C boom was raised 14.5 inches. I will be raising the boom on my 30 MK. If you have an older main and don''t want to spend alot of money shortening it, you could have "flattening reefs(?)" put in. It''s probably a very cheap fix till its time for a new sail.

Raising the boom?

I just spoke with rigger and sail maker and that is exactly was their suggestion Ė shorten the leech. Iíll have to measure and see if it does the trick.

Thanks a lot.
Maxim.

Raising the boom?

FWIW the original C&C 30 Mark I had a low boom (maybe 5'' or so), so in the middle of the production run (1977) C&C simply raised it a foot. Apparently the performance impact was negligable as PRHF rates all C&C 30 Mark I''s equally.

One other possibility is you might talk with a sailmaker about the practicality of simply shortening the leech of the main to raise the cockpit end of the boom - I''m not sure there''s any reason a boom needs to be horizontal - look at the Open 40s and 50s, their goosenecks are on the deck!

Raising the boom?

I am looking at the sloop (36í) that has dangerously low boom (5í Ĺ from the cockpit floor). Does anybody know if itís possible to raise it up, letís say 1 Ė 1í Ĺ ? Are there any negative affects (on mast for example) besides loosing some sail area?

Maxim.
