eherlihy I have seen a lot of mid 80s, and early 90s CALs and Pearsons erroneously listed as CAL-Pearson on eBay and Yachtworld. I suspect that the sellers are trying to leverage the reputation of both builders.

Thaumaturge The misleading request is my fault I'm afraid, not knowing anything about the marque I simply repeated the seller's information. The boat is being marketed as a CAL2 - 46 and the designer/builder is declared as being "Pearson". From what you say, the boat is a CAL2 - 46, but it's accredited to the wrong builder.

JimsCAL In the late 90s, a startup company called Cal-Pearson Yachts was formed to manufacture and sell several Cal and Pearson models. Only lasted a year or so and only 1997 models are listed. A Cal 2-46 is not one of the models they made however, so you are looking at an older boat made by Cal.

SEMIJim I certainly don't know everything there is to know about sailboats, or even our own boat, actually. What with all the cross-breeding that's taken place in the sailboat industry over the years, perhaps I've got this wrong, but TTBOMK Pearson and Cal are, or were, two different sailboat manufacturers. Pearson is out of business. Don't know about Cal.

There is a "Cal 2-46." Pearson does not appear to have made such a boat.

Your question probably would have been better-posted in the "Buying a boat" sub-forum.

Pearson CAL 2-46

I am trying to gather some information on the above named sailboat type, with a view to buying one that is offered for sale quite near here.

Can anyone in this esteemed forum, who knows of, or has such a boat please provide some comments upon,

1. Seaworthiness;
2. Sailability, single handed;
3. Suitability for blue water/ocean passages;
4. Who was the designer, for tracing pedigree;
5. Any other comments that would be useful to a potential buyer.

Many thanks in anticipation of your help in this matter.
