You memorize all of the model boats ever made and then you remember thier lengths so that you can quickly look at the boat and say, "Why, of course, that's a Lead Bobber 38." The 38 in the name tells you its 38 feet long, unless its one of those durn furen boats in which case the 38 means its 125 feet. Now isn't that much easier than putting up with Alex for a day.....

|wescarroll||I just kind of look at it and if it looks say... 30 feet long I figure it is somewhere between 25 and 35 feet long. If it looks longer I add a couple of feet to my estimate, shorter I subtract a couple of feet. You may feel free to use my formula if you wish, it has served me well.|
