Steering Wheel Hub

Edson makes a cast bronze hub (part# 667) that is available either in bronze or chromed that is specifically designed for people making their own wooden yacht wheels. They make three sizes of these hubs which allows you to mate the hub for the size and number of wheel spokes. The hubs have a 1" straight bore which fits on most traditional pedestals and helms.

Thanks Ross but I''ve had a look at those. I''m thinking more along the lines of a wooden wheel that looks just like a stainless steel destroyer wheel but made of laminated teak. I can probably make a wooden hub but a metal one would be preferable.

There are all kinds of wheels on Ebay with the sort of hub I think you''re referring to. Search "ship''s wheel". Maybe you can save some work...

Steering Wheel Hub

I would like to build a teak wheel for my 30 ft Islander Bahama. To do so I need a stainless steel hub that will allow the multiple bolt attachment for the teak and tapered hole for the shaft. I''ve seen them in the past (years ago) but haven''t had any luck finding one now that I am looking. Anyone with ideas?
