The only other thought would be not using enough water to flush will leave "stuff" in the hose from the bowl to the tank. This will certainly begin to close up and cause problems. The standing order on my boat is 10/15 pumps on the "wet" setting.

If that works for you that is fine. You are the only one who can judge if you are using enough flush water. If you know what I mean.... I once sailed in an area where the sea water you used to flush was more foul than what you were putting in the head. We all used fresh water to flush to avoid head odor.

After 20 years using a prota potty I finally put a real head in. This year, it went in after the season began so I had no seacock and thru hull - I just rinsed the bowl with some fresh water. In experminenting, I have found that the head uses an awful lot of outside water when the "wet bowl " valve position is used. Is all that water needed? I am considering not adding a thru hull and continuing just rinsing the bowl with a glass of water after each use.

Any thoughts?
