poopdeckpappy Had mine made for 800 bucks it's 8x14 with gabled ends, works very sweet

I also had 3 D rings placed along the ridgeline, so I can raise it higher off the boom with a sling made of a D ring, 3 lanyards off the D ring and 3 carabiners attaching to the 3 D rings along the ridgeline.

What ya do is, attach the 3 carabiners to the D rings on the boom tent, then attach the D ring with the 3 lanyards to the main halyard, raise it up

terryjoe You might want to check out July 2008 of Sail magazine. There is an article in there on page 67 about making your own awning like you are describing.

SailKing1 I agree, make your own. I used sumbrella for mine but a rip stop nylon can also be used for a lite waterproof boom tent.

When making mine i used grommets on the corners to attach with a bungee cord to form a tent for heavy rain. I also made pockets on each end to slide poles through to make it a canopy. The poles were made out of three foot sections of PVC that screwed together. Each had an eyelet on the end to attach shock cord. Works great for sun protection while allowing easy mobility. The whole thing collapses into a three foot long stowable unit.

zz4gta Make your own. I bought some cheap material to use as a template, and then will buy the good stuff for the final product. Basically, its just a tarp you put drape over the boom and secure to the lifelines.

Boom Tent

Hello,
I have a tartan 3000 and kids. When we anchor it gets very hot so I am looking for a tent to put over my boom to give us some shade in the cockpit. I saw some boats with a tent they roll out over the boom. There are many models out there. Are there recommendations on a style to look for and where to buy one?

Thanks,
Kim
