heinzir Slim Pickings I'm afraid!

Thank you for the compliment, and congratulations on your "new" boat. I'll be glad to help in any way I can. Be sure to check out and join our Venture 23 owners' group:

Check out the Files and the Photos sections for hundreds of ideas and pictures of VN23s in various stages of restoration. A search of the message archives will probably answer most questions. If not, just ask.

gypsyrosenc Henry, Your boat is beautiful. I was given (yes, given) a MacGregor Newport 23. It needs alot of work and I don't know where to start. Perhaps I can pick your brain!

Flatfendershop Hey thanks Henry. I think my keel has a different set up than what you are describing. I'll take a picture.

Thanks for the other sites, I'll check them out.
Flat.

heinzir Not sure about the 21 but I think all older Ventures were built pretty much the same. On my 23 the keel cable is one piece of 3/16" SS 7X19 wire that goes from the winch down to the keel. It is attached to the keel by a 3/8" bolt. The bolt goes thru an eye at the end of the wire and then thru the keel. The eye is formed around a thimble and secured with 2 Nicopress terminals.

The deck does have a wood core.

If you haven't discovered them already, here are a couple of Macgregor web sites:

cable on keel and wood in deck

Hello,

I pulled the keel out of my Venture 21 today and it looks pretty good. My question is about the cable that is integral to the keel, is there a good method to replacing this? I really don't need to do a complete keel rebuild, but it would be nice to put a new cable on the keel.

Any ideas?

(not referring to the cable that goes up to the winch)

Also, is there any wood in the deck as part of the laminating process on a Venture 21 or is it solid fiberglass?

Thank you, Flat.
