After doing a lot of research on storm management I have decided to purchase a Jordan series drogue. Hal Roth's book, "How to Sail Around the World" recommends fitting a chain plate to the topsides extending aft of the transom. The chain plates that he shows are massive.

Is it possible to buy chain plates like this online? I have a drill press so I could buy a blank piece of stainless.

Has anyone had experience fastening chain plates to an area of the hull that doesn't normally have a chain plate? What did you do to reinforce that area?

You can order stainless steel pre-cut to size and shape from several sources on-line. I'll see if I can dig up a few links for you.
