camaraderie I spent 5 winters in the Abacos and it is my very favorite place from all my cruising. Great water and reefs, lots of cays and good anchorages. Nice people. Great cruising community. Just the right mix of civilization and lack of it!

AlanBrown Herb,

Great website and a very enjoyable description of your trip! Thanks for sharing it with us.

BBB,

You'll be hard-pressed to find a better spot in the Bahamas to visit than the Abacos. I've kept my own boat there since 2004 and have come to love the place.

WanderingStar Visited Marsh Harbor by air a few years ago. Found the people to be REALLY nice. A great small town.

HerbDB I made my first trip to the Bahamas last year and visited the Abacos. I did this on the advise of a couple who have extensively cruised the Bahamas. Seventeen times for him and I think twelve for her.

They thought it was a good introduction for several reasons. Ease of navigation, provisioning is not as important as some of the more remote destinations and the abundance of protected harbors. On the down side is that the weather is colder particularly in the time periods we were there which was November through early Feb. Having said that, the wx was not that bad, we were never out of shorts. Wet suits are a good idea for diving and snorkling. You can see some shots from our trip here. Split Decision

We staged primarily out of Marsh Harbor for most of our stay for several reasons. We had groups of family members flying in and out to join us and the air service in Marsh Harbor is good. The supermarkets in Marsh Harbor carry everything you might need and the diver operator I used was based there. Food was more expensive, but not horribly so. We had freezer space for most of the meat we needed and did not buy a lot of frozen meats although the quality was excellent. If you are going to pay to ship frozen meat to the Bahamas, you don't ship lesser quality cuts.

If we make the trip again, we will carry a lot more soft drinks and beer (expensive) and far less canned and dried foods. We ended up giving most of it away to food banks after we returned.

Good luck with your planning and trip. You will enjoy it I am sure.
