williewood33 For a new bearing, Marine Products Engineering, Doug Grant. Located in San Pedro, CA. I don't know that he will make you one, but he has material and the skill.

What became of your existing one?

Re: Cal 31

I replaced my engine with a Yanmar 30 GM3 its very noisy, I was thinking about using insulation material all around the lazarettes and anywhere else I could find, its a lot of insulation, Boxing may be good, but have you thought about fire hazards and ventilation? Even though its a diesel it may not be a good idea to "box" it.

Re: Cal 31

I am looking for information on replacing the rudder bearing in my 1983 CAL 31, does anyone have a place to buy one, or have experience replacing one?

williewood33 The engine is open on the top and sides within the lazarettes, plus noisy. I'm thinking of building a box to isolate the engine.

Re: Cal 31

Williewood, not sure what you mean by boxing in the engine. Are you talking about building an enclosure for sound reduction?

Re: Cal 31

Has anyone boxed in their engine on the Cal 31? If so, penny for your thoughts.

No, my daughter was down below reading. And, the boat is a '79, the pic is this summer. I do 95% of my sailing to Catalina with my two kids.

Heat exchanger sources are:

Seakamp and Sendure

Universal engines are based on Kubota tractor blocks, don't bother paying toad prices for tractor parts.
