Vire 7

My Vire 7 does the same, will die if I throttle down too much, occasionally will lose power, the rpm's will drop and throttling up won't help.
We changed out the entire fuel delivery system when we found rust in the fuel filter (the original tank was there, flaking away) including vent line, fill line, etc.
Our performance is better, but not healed.
I'm going to be setting the idling screw up this weekend, I'm pretty sure the mixture is just too rich and the engine is flooding out. (when I close the throttle all the way down, it's almost a sure death)
I have not yet had the carburetor rebuilt.. that's next on the list.

Valiente Check the gas tank vent for spider nests. Clean and/or replace as needed. A partial block will gradually overcome the fuel pump's ability to suck fuel, and the tank pressure will equalize after some time stopped...meaning the problem "vanishes" until the next time you need the engine more than seven minutes.

vire 7

hi folks,
i have a vire 7 inboard on my viking 28 sailboat.
the engine starts and runs great in neutral i can rev it uo all i want when i want to go somewhere and put it in gear it stalls after giving some gas as long as i ease up it will run.
i was told the high sped jet was clogged so i took it apart cleaned it put it together she ran great everything worked fine . the next day i star it up runs a bit rough have to get towed will not start even makes a funny coughing thumping sound when im tryin to start her.
im told to get carb proff. cleaned. $150.00 later put carb back on takes 15min of cranking and coughing to start she runs amazingly well for 7 minutes totally dies and will not even give a hint of starting. i have tried fresh gas new plugs, nothing works.
i have been looking at the vire 7 site for ideas but was wondering if anyone else out there has had a similar problem.
