Re: Crew, Captain and Owner Feedback

Looking for Feedback:

This is my first time using this forum. So far (after two days) the response is nil. Am I going about this wrong?

"Crew Wanted

Owner of Cape Dory 36 Cutter is looking for one or two crew. Returning to Annapolis, MD from Southport, NC. Limited experience OK traveling via ICW. Leaving Southport mid-March; Came from Annapolis late October solo and need crew for return trip due to medical issue. Inner ear problem (Menieres desease) results in vertigo. Occurrence is unpredictable."

Re: Crew, Captain and Owner Feedback

Maybe I should have said "Charter" instead of contract.

I understand Stiff Wind's position on the value of contracts and their enforcement, but I think they do serve a purpose if well written so that all know what is expected and have signed their names indicating they agreed.

I've moved your post to it's own thread, you'll probably get better response under the new title.

Re: Crew, Captain and Owner Feedback

I am single and ready to retire. Last year I bought a new boat (50') and sailed in Chesapeake with friends. Next year I am going to sail all season May through October on the East Coast (Maine here I come), and in November I am thinking about a Rally to Tortola and spend the spring in Caribbean. However, I am not comfortable doing this all by myself so I am considering taking on a crew of at least one, to ensure safe passages and share the work. Is this the place to find people who wants to sail for extended period? Recommendations please?

So far my and the crews experiences are:
Crew left stranded in Panama.
Crew is still waiting for pay and return flights.
Many lies and never ending broken promises.
Quick in asking for money.
Very difficult to contact. Not contactable by phone.
yacht-delivery.com may have been a reputable company in the past, but is now in the ownership of Stephen Miller (a previous car dealer).
Should you still decide to deal with this company, make sure that you do not pay upfront.
I have had the exact same experience with this company. He has cost me close to 50k GBP and his unpaid crew abandoned my yacht 7000 miles from its destination. When I successfully prosecuted him, he declared insolvency to avoid refunding my money.

His website is still up, but he is writing to Court to state that he is avoiding his responsibilities to pay damages as he is insolvent and winding the company up. He stole my provisioning budget to go skiiing and kept all the fees, even though he did only a 10th of the work.

A thread dealing with the same topic issues can be found at,

http://www.sailnet.com/forums/cruisi...-favour-4.html

Which has a captains questionnaire and a crew questionnaire advice.

Thanks for the heads up. Can you elaborate more on their short comings?
