An absolute yes! I would expect they are completely comparable.. and many more were made than Nordics - they are a tad on the cruisier side, perhaps than Nordic. The Passports did come with a variety of different layouts, so if you look at them try to get an idea of the differences.

I don't know the Nordic's, but the Olle Enderlein boats sail great, but they're not the fastest boats out there. They ARE highly regarded for the seakeeping abilities, and still make good daily runs. (Even though I probably have said earlier that it was not the fastest boat).
For the record, I've sailed long hauls on a 35 (Rasmus), and think the 38 is even better/faster and points better..

Faster Have you specifically rejected the Passport 40/Nassau 42? Similar pedigree to the Nordic. You'd have a better selection to choose from.

blue water boat buying, phase 3

I have narrowed down my list of boats to four:

1. Nordic 40
2. Hood 38
3. Hallberg Rassy 38
4. Sabre 38

I have a couple of questions:
a. How 'bad' of a sailor is the Hallberg 38 (1981 Enderlien design) compared to especially the Nordic?
b. How to value the engines? All boats have the original engine with only the hallberg's volvo rebuilt in 1999. the hood is lightly used at 2400 whereas the nordic stands at close to 5000? Sabre closes to 4000.
c. The hallberg has the original 1981 teakdeck apparently in 'prefect' state. How do I deal with this from a valuation perspective?

Used the article on sail net about boat buying when seeing the boats; highly recommend it!
